The Interview Part 3

If you could make disappear three filmmakers and their entire catalogue of films, who would they be and why?
Nora Ephron, (You got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle) because of her reliance on formulaic love story, without any new twists to the genre. Sleepless in Seattle was based on an already made film that they actually watched on TV in the film. Of course I understand the premise of it poking fun at itself and the whole romantic genre, this doesn't necessitate a complete hack. Although, Rob Reiner's performance was good (is it ever not). John Woo, the king of slow motion... good action sequences does not create a story. As a producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, the independent filmakers' arch nemisus. Big budget, first weekend returns, have killed independent or lower budget films. I guess I could blame Lucas and Spielberg for that but I'm not about to erase thoses guys film catalogs. They own their own studios, which makes them separate from the studio. They have an artistic freedom, which many if any will never attain. But they're slaves to the dollar (although Schindler's List was a huge risk), and probably won't take theses risks. NOTE: I am not saying that most people aren't slaves to the dollar. I am saying that art, in all forms, has suffered due to the dollar.

Name at least three films you've seen more than 10 times and why.
Clerks... the dream of independent filmakers... film school drop out makes it big... the writer's dream of how writing surpasses bad acting... a sarcastic kick in the nuts to commercial film industry. A Clockwork Orange... Kubrick is to film what Van Gogh was to painting... a misunderstood genius... The cinematography, art direcion, and especially the performances stand out and make film what it should be... mind engaging through the senses of sight and sound. Slam...directed by Marc Levin, this poorly distributed film shows how the mind and words transcend the body and almost convinced me that a soul can exist... It won camera d'or at Cannes, grand jury prize at Sundance... I will be happy if I could ever make a film which is a quarter as moving... if you haven't seen it then do so...

Do you have any future projects you are planing to work on?
I've written a few features, which Red Sky Entertainment in Vancouver is looking at. As well, I have a 20 minute dark comedy on 16mm in the works for the film festival circuit. Currently, we are writing a weekly episodic that will be shown exclusively on this web site. Stay tuned for "oDd MaN ouT." If anyone out there needs a writer, producer, director etc at anytime, I welcome new assignments or ideas. Thanks for all the feedback.
